What is Agua Fresca?
Agua fresca, translated fresh water or cool water, is a delightful Mexican nonalcoholic beverage you can make in minutes!
It combines fresh fruit and/or vegetables with water and a little sugar (or agave) for sweetness. Some traditional recipes include grains and nuts as well.
Agua Fresca is quick and easy to make. You simply throw all the ingredients in the blender and puree it until the mixture is very smooth. The blender breaks down the sugar, so it dissolves into the water. Therefore, there’s no need to make a simple syrup ahead of time.
Aqua fresca recipes make fabulous summer mocktails. You can serve them as-is or add a splash of lemon-lime soda for a little effervescence.
You can also turn agua fresca into a perky summer cocktail, by adding a shot of vodka, tequila, or rum.
This Cucumber Ginger Mint Agua Fresca variation is a personal favorite. Together, fresh raw cucumbers, lime juice, mint leaves, and ginger root create a bright power-packed flavor, with subtle undertones.
I took a pitcher of my agua fresca to a party last week, specifically for the kids, and it was gone in minutes. I got so many requested for more, I ended up making a second pitcher for the adults to use as a cocktail mixer, because they could not get over it’s fresh vibrant essence.
How To Make Cucumber Ginger Mint Agua Fresca
Dump all the ingredients in a blender jar. There’s no need to peel the cucumber or the ginger in this recipe. It will be strained out later.
Add only half the water upfront. Depending on the size of your blender, it may not all fit, when the mixture expands during the puree process.
Once pureed, pour the agua fresca through I sieve to remove the pulp.
Add the rest of the water and you’re done!
Sip, ahhh. Sip, sip, ahhhhhhh!
