Chicken Detox Soup
Chicken Detox Soup is a fast, tasty meal filled with vitamins and nutrients. This cleansing soup is great to make when you need a do-over in your eating plan.

Why We Love This Chicken Detox Soup Recipe
Looking for a great Detox Soup Recipe? Especially after the holidays, I like to take some time to eat healthy and include some nourishing, detoxing soups like this Chicken Detox Soup!
From my personal experience, cleanses usually involve expensive herbal supplement kits from the health food store, or a whole lot of juicing.
However, this cleanse is different. It’s a Chicken Detox Soup Cleanse made from a nourishing homemade soup with fresh chicken, loads of veggies, and ginger, to boost your metabolism and immune system, as well as remove toxins to help your body work as it should. Eat this soup for a few days and you will be feeling good as new! It is gluten-free, dairy-free, and paleo to boot!
With protein, vegetables, vitamins, and minerals, it provides more nutrients than most of the world’s population receives on any given day. So don’t be afraid to give it a try!

Ingredients You Need
- Chicken Breast – chicken breast is best since it is high in protein and low in fat. You can use chicken thighs, but this will add fat to the chicken soup.
- Chicken Broth – or chicken stock
- Vegetables – onion, broccoli, carrots, celery and peas
- Fresh Parsley – for a fresh, herby flavor
- Fresh Ginger – adds flavor and antioxidants
- Garlic – to make the soup aromatic
- Olive Oil – to sauté the veggies, you can also use avocado oil if preferred!
- Apple Cider Vinegar – adds a slight tangy flavor
- Crushed Red Pepper – for just a hint of spice
- Turmeric – great for cleanses
- Salt & Pepper – to taste
Pro Tip: If you see any vegetable in there that you don’t like, switch it out for something you do like. Other great options are spinach, kale, or additional fresh herbs! For ease, you can use shredded rotisserie chicken instead!

How to Make Detox Soup
Set a large sauce pot over medium heat. Add the olive oil, chopped onions, celery, ginger, and garlic. Sauté for 5-6 minutes to soften. Then add the raw chicken breasts, broth, carrots, apple cider vinegar, crushed red pepper, turmeric, and 1 teaspoon sea salt.
Bring to a boil, lower the heat, and simmer for 20+ minutes, until the chicken breasts are cooked through. Then remove the chicken with tongs and set them on a cutting board to cool.
Add broccoli, peas, and parsley to the pot. Continue to simmer to soften the broccoli. Meanwhile, shred the chicken breast with two forks, and stir it back into the soup. Once the broccoli is tender, taste, then salt and pepper as needed. Serve warm!
Pro Tip: If you like a little extra tangy flavor, serve your chicken detox soup with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.

Just made it tonight but with homemade chicken broth and mushrooms added. And just a tip: if you don’t like tasting/eating ginger directly, you can just boil it as a few pieces so it’s easy to remove or avoid later. I had forgot and minced it and I cringe when I eat it….
But still a delicious soup, I’ll get through it.
This soup has worked wonders for me every time I’ve made it. Not to be gross or anything, but it had me headed to the ladies’ room about once an hour after I’ve eaten it. This is totally not a bad thing! Felt lighter overall and slimmer over the span of a couple days. My husband, on the other hand didn’t have the same cleansing experience as me. But, he loves it for the flavor of the delicious broth.
I make this soup every time I need a reset or to make up for a long weekend of some hardcore cheating. And it’s so good that I look forward to having it every time.
Thank you, Sommer, for sharing!
Made this yesterday, and just got started… DELICIOUS! I think I can easily stick to this for ten days… time will tell. And BONUS: my whole family loves it too… I thought my 3 teens/young adults would shy away merely by the word “detox”. But no! All 3 are totally into it, and super mega bonus: hubby too! It’s disappearing fast, so I will head back to the store today and try the southwest version. I’d really like to keep this soup as a staple in the house for those future days when you just don’t know what to eat. THANK YOU for sharing this recipe! Can’t wait to see the results.
Hi Kataya,
Look for the red “Click Here For Recipe” button at the bottom of the post. :)
Question: Can you make this in a crock pot? What would the variations be for the recepie if so? Also can I leave out the red pepper and still get the same results? Thanks.
Hi Katie, Yes and yes! Just make sure to sauté the onions, garlic, and celery in a pan before adding the ingredients to the crock.
This is like the best chicken soup I have ever made. Better than the local Vietnamese place near my house. I followed the recipe but took out peas, carrots, added spinach and cauliflower. So easy to make and so flavorful! And healthy too!
Hi Judy! So very glad you liked it. You just made my day! :)
Hi,
I haven’t made this yet, but it looks great! I was wondering if there if nutritional information is available?
Thank you.
I just made this soup. Delicious! I added a little more garlic just because I love garlic. I am not doing a cleanse, pre se, but I am trying to eat less carbs, and this looked like a great soup for that. Really, really, delicious!
Hi Dr. Alter,
There is a “Click Here For Recipe” button at the bottom of the post. That way, you have the recipe at the top of the page when you are ready to made it. :)
Do you eat this for all three meals?
Hi Andrea!
Yes, if you are following the cleanse as suggested, you eat it for every meal, several days in a row.
BEST SOUP I’VE EVER HAD! My boyfriend even ate it…and he dislikes soup. I, of course, did not tell him it was a “detox soup”. Just a good old fashioned chicken soup. haha. Wonderful. I can’t wait to try more recipes from you!
Im thinking about doing this soup as one of my meal prep meals & change up the veggies very other week. Its super delicious
