Chicken Detox Soup
Chicken Detox Soup is a fast, tasty meal filled with vitamins and nutrients. This cleansing soup is great to make when you need a do-over in your eating plan.

Why We Love This Chicken Detox Soup Recipe
Looking for a great Detox Soup Recipe? Especially after the holidays, I like to take some time to eat healthy and include some nourishing, detoxing soups like this Chicken Detox Soup!
From my personal experience, cleanses usually involve expensive herbal supplement kits from the health food store, or a whole lot of juicing.
However, this cleanse is different. It’s a Chicken Detox Soup Cleanse made from a nourishing homemade soup with fresh chicken, loads of veggies, and ginger, to boost your metabolism and immune system, as well as remove toxins to help your body work as it should. Eat this soup for a few days and you will be feeling good as new! It is gluten-free, dairy-free, and paleo to boot!
With protein, vegetables, vitamins, and minerals, it provides more nutrients than most of the world’s population receives on any given day. So don’t be afraid to give it a try!

Ingredients You Need
- Chicken Breast – chicken breast is best since it is high in protein and low in fat. You can use chicken thighs, but this will add fat to the chicken soup.
- Chicken Broth – or chicken stock
- Vegetables – onion, broccoli, carrots, celery and peas
- Fresh Parsley – for a fresh, herby flavor
- Fresh Ginger – adds flavor and antioxidants
- Garlic – to make the soup aromatic
- Olive Oil – to sauté the veggies, you can also use avocado oil if preferred!
- Apple Cider Vinegar – adds a slight tangy flavor
- Crushed Red Pepper – for just a hint of spice
- Turmeric – great for cleanses
- Salt & Pepper – to taste
Pro Tip: If you see any vegetable in there that you don’t like, switch it out for something you do like. Other great options are spinach, kale, or additional fresh herbs! For ease, you can use shredded rotisserie chicken instead!

How to Make Detox Soup
Set a large sauce pot over medium heat. Add the olive oil, chopped onions, celery, ginger, and garlic. Sauté for 5-6 minutes to soften. Then add the raw chicken breasts, broth, carrots, apple cider vinegar, crushed red pepper, turmeric, and 1 teaspoon sea salt.
Bring to a boil, lower the heat, and simmer for 20+ minutes, until the chicken breasts are cooked through. Then remove the chicken with tongs and set them on a cutting board to cool.
Add broccoli, peas, and parsley to the pot. Continue to simmer to soften the broccoli. Meanwhile, shred the chicken breast with two forks, and stir it back into the soup. Once the broccoli is tender, taste, then salt and pepper as needed. Serve warm!
Pro Tip: If you like a little extra tangy flavor, serve your chicken detox soup with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.

My family has eaten this soup every week for the past couple months and we haven’t gotten sick of it! I usually make a batch on Monday and we eat it for lunch or dinner for a few days. This soup is very flavorful and filling and was a great winter staple (we are still making & eating it well into spring!) Can not say enough about this soup. Everything is so fresh and tasty. Highly recommend. Thank you for this recipe!!!!
good to hear! did you lose weight eating it?
This soup is sooo delicious! I love how it’s packed full of flavour and doesn’t feel like you’re eating a healthy soup. I will definitely be making this again.
I followed the recipe exactly apart from replacing the brown onion with a leek instead.
Absolutely LOVE the soup!!!! Just had a couple of questions regarding the cleanse. How badly will having smoothies for breakfast affect the cleanse?? My girlfriend and I both work everyday at 5:30am so making a smoothie for breakfast is easier for us to take on the go. If it is bad to have smoothies on the cleanse, are there any alternative breakfast options for people on the go???
This Chicken Detox Soup tastes great!
This soup was amazing!! Even my meat and potatoes husband ate it!! I’m not a big onion eater.. is there something I can substitute it with, like onion powder or would you just omit it completely?? Thank you for sharing this recipe!!
Thanks for publishing this recipe. I was pleasantly surprised. I was searching for a healthy soup that didn’t contain cabbage. I have no idea why I made it because 1) I thought the ingredients were too simple to be flavorful, 2) I’m not a big fan of ginger and 3) I am honestly not sure what turmeric tastes like. I will definitely make this again and exactly as written. Next time, though, I will pay closer attention to the broccoli. It overcooked while I was waiting for the chicken to cool down.
This is my first time making this soup. It is wonderful and while I absolutely LOVE the broth, there is far too little of it. I need to increase the broth but don’t want to water down the flavor. Any ideas on how to capture the flavor with chicken broth? Is it just ginger, ACV & red pepper flakes giving it that sour-ish, spicy flavor? If anyone has a recipe, pls share! TIA
Hi Karen!
It sounds like it simmered a little too high. You can certainly add extra chicken broth or water and the beginning of the simmer time, so it is infused with flavor. Or you could also, turn the heat a little lower next time and see if you are satisfied with the amount of broth.
Lovely !!!!! Your blog is amazing and recipes are must try .Best wishes
My previous comment posted before I could get all stars checked…definitely a five star in our house!
I absolutely love this soup. I have a question…what is the true calorie count…one print out says 91 calories for 1.5 cups…the other print out says 199 calories for 12g???
I log my calories daily and need to know how to record this!
Thanks for a great recipe!
Paula
Hello!! I just have a question for breakfast, you also have soup??
I don’t understand the part about cooling the chicken, but it’s a great recipe that I’m going to keep in the rotation. I added some curry powder and some extra cayenne for some heat.
