Found this on Instagram and tried it out (minus the turmeric which i dislike) It’s a great soup… I’ve made it twice already and it’s going to be one of those go-to recipes when it’s soup time.
Made this tonight I omitted the peas and added mushrooms and lemongrass . It was awesome will make again. Love your recipes.
Do you know what the calorie count per serving is ? Made it tonight – so good!!
Don’t need to worry about calories with a soup this healthy! You can eat as much as you want!
Substitute suggestion for ginger–allergic. Thanks looks divine
Hi Chris! The ginger is an important component for detoxification. However, you can try adding other ingredients that are know to detox… Lemongrass, cilantro, cabbage, kale are a few.
Do you have the nutritional breakdown, carbs, sodium, etc. I am doing low carb diet and this info would be useful so that I could do some substitutions, mushrooms for peas, etc. love ginger, so healthful. Thanks for sharing. I will definitely be making this soup.
It looks SOOO GOOD!!!
Hi.
Id like the recipe for the chicken detox soup. Cant seem to get it
Hi Rosie, It’s on page 2 of this post. :)
Would really like to try this soup!
Looks great but where is the actual recipe?
Hi Ann! It’s on page 2 of this post. :)
I have been eating this soup for over a week- my sciatica is gone, I’ve lost 8 pounds, and I feel AMAZING. I may have to live on this stuff forever :-/
Wow that is awesome. Well your comment has definitely convinced me to make this soup Today! Thank you. Blessings!
I made this soup and it us fantastic. I fix a bowl every time my stomach grumbles and it is so delicious and satisfying. I have lost 5 lbs in a few days. Thank you so much for this great recipe!
Hi! I am trying to lose some weight for the upcoming spring break season! I was doing really well with my eating and working out and then this past week I completely splurged all week long with eating, so I feel like I need a reset. I can’t wait to try this! What do you recommend eating for breakfast?
Hi! I am making this for dinner but I would like to cook it in a crockpot. Can I just throw everything in at once and cook 5 hours on High? Thank you!!
Your veggies would be complete mush. I would cook the chicken with the broth, spices, and onion in the crockpot until the chick can be shredded. Shred the chicken, then put the chicken and veggies in the pot cook and cook for probably about and hour until R the veggies reach the softness you want
Do you have the nutritional value for this recipe?
This was SOOOOO delicious! It had so much flavor, you would never believe it’s so healthy! Only had ground ginger, so I used that, maybe about 2 1/2 tablespoons, and I had to add a little extra EVOO to stop the ground ginger from burning in the beginning.

Hi, I was wondering do we have to eat only this soul to detox? I mean mornings my husband and i make our own replacement shakes for breakfast but the soup would do perfect for lunch and dinner to help jump start our weight loss journey.
Hi Michelle! The book mentioned states only to eat the soup, then add in salad and salmon later in the week. I’m not a dietitian, so I can’t tell you the what the different outcome might be. It’s a good read if you want more information. :)
What book? I just made a big pot of this soup for a detox. Plan to only eat this and try wait until day 6 to eat salmon and salad, what book is this diet from? I would love to know what I” supposed to be doing!
Hi Emma,

What can I sub for peas? I do Paleo and peas aren’t allowed besides I also don’t like peas.
Hi Betsy! Add any veggie you like! Maybe red bell peppers?
Do you have calorie count for a serving? Anything you have would be great. It’s cooking and I can’t wait to try it!
Hi Maeve! I don’t usually provide nutritional information, because so many of the tools available vary in their results. Yet from what I can figure, this recipe comes out to just under 100 calories per cup.
This soup is really good, I have lost 10 pounds, however the bit about using organic is crap.

Hi Tracey! I don’t usually provide nutritional information, because so many of the tools available vary in their results. Yet from what I can figure, this recipe comes out to just under 100 calories per cup. Hope this helps. :)
Can this freeze? Will the broccoli go soggy if you thaw and reheat it?
Hi Meow, I tried freezing it a couple times and it thaws just fine. :)
Any thoughts on how I could tweak this to do it in the slow cooker?
What is the nutritional value for the soup? I’m trying to count calories sodium vitamins…
How much is considered a serving and how many a day? How long will a batch last in the fridge and can you freeze it?

This looks yummy! I have trouble with gas and the need to stay close to a bathroom for a bit after eating. I would love to find something this simple to make that could help with this problem. Do you have any recipes?
I was wondering to if you could add or substitute cauliflower for the ginger? Thanks for posting! I will definitely be trying this!
Connie, you need to research IBS w/diarrhea.I have the other problem:/ Peppermint tea helps with gas.
I’m eating this now- soooo good! Thanks for an awesome healthy recipe. I’ll definitely be trying more from your blog :)
Is the apple cider 100% necessary. I don’t have any. Can I substitute for something else or omit it
Thanks
Hi Maria! You can omit it if you don’t have any.
yum.
Most cook from scratch moms & grands have been making this for generations..:-)
I still use cken thighs tho.. You NEED the bone broth & fat to make it truly good for you !!
takes fat to loose fat, not just water weight :-0
I would like to modify this for the crock pot. Any suggestions? This looks yummy! Can’t wait to try.
I made it as posted in my crockpot! Came out delicious ? I cooked it on low for four hours.

Hi! Great recipe thank you for sharing, I can not wait to try this out!
I tend to cook everything I eat pretty bland and I am wondering about the turmeric and ginger. How strong is their flavor in the soup?
It isn’t very spicy. In fact, I usually add more seasoning for more flavor. Not a huge fan of ginger myself so I was unsure about using it but it’s really tasty.
Love this soup. However, to cut sodium, I used a quarter of low sodium chicken stock and a quarter of filtered water and I eliminated the extra salt. Also added a cup of chopped kale. Yum!
I plan on doing the same thing. Seems like a lot of sodium to me.

Can this be a crockpot meal? All ingredients in crockpot on high for 4 hours??? Let me know. Thanks!
Hi Jennifer! You can make this is the crockpot, but I might soften the onions and celery in a skillet first so they don’t end up with a rubbery texture.
The soup is delicious! My son has football weigh-in tomorrow and has been on a strict diet for 2 weeks. This was a very welcomed treat, as opposed to eating another salad. 10yr old aproved…then it’s going on our meal list!
How much equals one serving?
This soup is delicious. A diet mainstay. Can you share the site to find the book for the rest of the diet instructions?

Made this soup as directed, except didn’t have any sea salt. This soup is delicious. To think it is also healthy is just a huge plus. I have eaten only the soup for 24 hours. So anxious to see what the results are about 3 or 4 days from now. Hubby loves the soup also, so I will be making an additional batch tomorrow. Fingers crossed that this works to get a weight-loss jump start. Delicious, healthy, and effective would make this a win-win-win
I just made this last night and had to stop myself from getting a second helping it was so good! I followed the recipe to the letter, except I only used 1lb of chicken instead of 1.5 (that is how it was sold in the store). The ginger and spices make you feel like you’re detoxing, which is amazing. Filling, savory, healthy, I couldn’t ask for better. This is one for the books and one I will be sure to make over and over again this winter. Thanks!

Delicious! Made it Sunday. Ate some Sunday & Monday. Froze the rest, 1 cup each in freeze bags for later.
Loved this soup, but did anyone have a problem with having really bad diarrhea after eating it? I assume this is part of the detox … But it’s been terrible. :-(
I have made something similar to this, but am interested in trying this recipe. I have a question though. When you add in the salad and nuts can you use a dressing on the salad like oil and vinegar?
I plan to use this low calorie balsamic vinaigrette that I love. I hope that’s ok

question! when you say “add chicken”, am I adding cooked chicken? raw chicken? shredded chicken?
Hi Heidi!
Add raw chicken and cook in the broth. In case you were only seeing the post page, here is the full recipe: http://www.aspicyperspective.com/chicken-detox-soup/2/
I just made this and it was delicious! I was worried I was going to still feel hungry after eating it, but I feel full and guilt free! I will be making this again!
I made this soup today. It’s fabulous! I only added 2 ingredients: spinach and leeks. I thought it was going to be bland with no seasoning on the chicken, but it’s flavorful. I will make this again. My family likes it.

Today is my first day enjoying my soup! I looove it! I’m super busy so having my food already prepared is great. I love soup so I hope ? I don’t get bored. I plan to make another pot of it soon!
I made this today. So yummy!
Made this tonight and did not deviate from the recipe, which is unusual for me! It was fabulous! The whole family loved this! Even my picky puppy was drooling and begging for some! I think fresh ginger and garlic are a must.
I recommend doubling the recipe to have leftovers. It is definitely on the rotation list. Next time, I will make enough to freeze! Thank you!
I just made a double batch and have had my second bowl today. It’s delicious! I replaced the frozen peas with chopped fresh zucchini and left out the red pepper flakes. I also added a little more turmeric. I also chopped my chicken pretty rather than shredding it- it was taking too long. Plus, I thought it would be more evenly spread throughout the soup. It is pretty thick- not much broth. Should I add more broth or water?
Hi Natalie,
I usually have plenty of broth. Maybe you cooked it down a little longer? But feel free to add more!
A little tip on shredded chicken: use a hand mixer and it’ll shred right up in a minute or so. No more tedious fork shredding!
Love this soup, just wondering how the detox, weight loss portion works. Breakfast, lunch, supper, how much soup to be eaten and for how many days
Hi Bethany!
You would have to read the book for the full breakdown and explanation. But because the soup is so lean, you can eat until you are full. I’ve done this multiple times now and never really measure my soup intake. Hope this helps!

Im thinking about doing this soup as one of my meal prep meals & change up the veggies very other week. Its super delicious
BEST SOUP I’VE EVER HAD! My boyfriend even ate it…and he dislikes soup. I, of course, did not tell him it was a “detox soup”. Just a good old fashioned chicken soup. haha. Wonderful. I can’t wait to try more recipes from you!
Do you eat this for all three meals?
Hi Andrea!
Yes, if you are following the cleanse as suggested, you eat it for every meal, several days in a row.

Hi Dr. Alter,
There is a “Click Here For Recipe” button at the bottom of the post. That way, you have the recipe at the top of the page when you are ready to made it. :)
I just made this soup. Delicious! I added a little more garlic just because I love garlic. I am not doing a cleanse, pre se, but I am trying to eat less carbs, and this looked like a great soup for that. Really, really, delicious!
Hi,
I haven’t made this yet, but it looks great! I was wondering if there if nutritional information is available?
Thank you.
This is like the best chicken soup I have ever made. Better than the local Vietnamese place near my house. I followed the recipe but took out peas, carrots, added spinach and cauliflower. So easy to make and so flavorful! And healthy too!
Hi Judy! So very glad you liked it. You just made my day! :)
Question: Can you make this in a crock pot? What would the variations be for the recepie if so? Also can I leave out the red pepper and still get the same results? Thanks.
Hi Katie, Yes and yes! Just make sure to sauté the onions, garlic, and celery in a pan before adding the ingredients to the crock.
Hi Kataya,
Look for the red “Click Here For Recipe” button at the bottom of the post. :)
Made this yesterday, and just got started… DELICIOUS! I think I can easily stick to this for ten days… time will tell. And BONUS: my whole family loves it too… I thought my 3 teens/young adults would shy away merely by the word “detox”. But no! All 3 are totally into it, and super mega bonus: hubby too! It’s disappearing fast, so I will head back to the store today and try the southwest version. I’d really like to keep this soup as a staple in the house for those future days when you just don’t know what to eat. THANK YOU for sharing this recipe! Can’t wait to see the results.
This soup has worked wonders for me every time I’ve made it. Not to be gross or anything, but it had me headed to the ladies’ room about once an hour after I’ve eaten it. This is totally not a bad thing! Felt lighter overall and slimmer over the span of a couple days. My husband, on the other hand didn’t have the same cleansing experience as me. But, he loves it for the flavor of the delicious broth.
I make this soup every time I need a reset or to make up for a long weekend of some hardcore cheating. And it’s so good that I look forward to having it every time.
Thank you, Sommer, for sharing!
Just made it tonight but with homemade chicken broth and mushrooms added. And just a tip: if you don’t like tasting/eating ginger directly, you can just boil it as a few pieces so it’s easy to remove or avoid later. I had forgot and minced it and I cringe when I eat it….
But still a delicious soup, I’ll get through it.

Ok…10 days for cleanse, correct? How many times a day? Breakfast, lunch and dinner? What can I drink with this cleanse? Thank you
Hi Jessica,
For all the details you’ll want to get the book mentioned in the post. However, you pretty much eat the soup as many times a day as you are hungry, for ten days, and drink only water and unsweetened herbal tea. The book mentions adding in salads and grilled salmon the last few days for dinner. This helps you get a little extra healthy fat. Good luck!!
This was an incredible chicken soup. The flavors were wonderful and you can add veggies or subtract, depending on your preferences. It lasted in the fridge for days and only got better. It was truly delicious and I will make again.
Absolutely love it! I’m not much of a celery person, left that out, and used a leek instead of onion. It has a wonderful aroma as well as taste. I made 2 pots the first week…..the first batch went home with my grown children once they sniffed the air upon their arrival at my home! That Says It All!
This soup is freakin’ amazing! Thank you for the recipe!
A family member gave me this recipe. I thought it sounded weird with the ginger and vinegar, but I love to eat healthy so I tried it. I have made it three times now, and it is so delicious! My husband loves it and actually requested that I make it again. I love taking the leftover for lunch and know that I’m eating super healthy. This will be in the rotation quite frequently. I’m eating it right now!
This was excellent! I just made a big ol’ pot and could have had several servings. I followed the recipe exactly and it’s super tasty. It’s going in the rotation. Thanks Sommer!

Making this for the first time today, not ready yet but the broth tastes pretty darn good. If I add cabbage and kale and will it still be a cleansing soup?
Hi Margene,
Absolutely! How did it taste?
Awesome soup! Tastes great. Beats the heck out of the “cabbage soup”. If I add kale and cabbage will it mess up the detox properties???
Delicious. Will definitely fix this again.
This was SO delicious. One of the best soups I’ve had in a long time. Definitely a keeper!
I made this today it’s delicious. Be making it more and sharing with family & friends .
My house smells amazing right now, and this soup tastes fantastic! Thank you for the recipe!
How long does a batch of soup last refrigerated?
This was AMAZING! Even my husband, who normally doesn’t like the food I cook because it’s too healthy, liked this soup! I feel like most healthy soups don’t have much flavor, but this had such great flavor. Perfect for post-holiday indulgence.
The title says it all!! This is THE BEST Chicken soup I have ever made and tasted. This is the only chicken soup I will ever make. :)
How often do you eat this to lose weight and detox?
Would this be good with leftover turkey? I’ve made it before with chicken and I love it (minus the peas)

Best Soup Ever! This soup is a testament to what a difference using fresh and healthy ingredients can make. It tastes amazing! I eat it for one meal every day now and I love the way it makes me feel. Try it!
This was so good! I never thought I would like Chicken soup without noodles or rice but then I obviously wasn’t adding the right spices. This had so much flavor. Thank you so much!!
I used Bone broth and subbed cut up fresh green beans for the peas. I also used 1/8 tsp ground red pepper instead of the crushed (I hate getting one of those crushed pieces stuck in my teeth)
Easy, healthy and delicious! I will be making this wonderful soup again.
This soup is absolutely DELICIOUS. The only tweek I made was using bone in chicken breasts with the skin on. It wasn’t greasy and It definitely added more flavor.
I made the soup using the directions to a tee and it is very good. Next time I’ll add more crushed or green peppers as I love spicy food and a half teaspoon of turmeric. Thanks, Misty and Angel’s dad (My furry feline children).
