Caribbean Way Smoothie King Recipe
I’m obsessed with this refreshing and deliciously sweet Caribbean way smoothie king recipe that’s packed with fresh banana, strawberries and papaya chunks. It’s perfect to drink on a hot summer day or as a pick-me-up when you need a boost of energy that’s also flavorful.

As soon as the warm weather begins to arrive, we start to our cooling down plans, complete with sprinkler strategizing, and of course, getting excited about what deliciously cold and refreshing drinks and snacks we will enjoy all season. Year after year my go-to drink for getting summer started right has been this Caribbean way smoothie king recipe. This copycat version inspired by Smoothie King, is seriously like a taste of tropical paradise with every sip. Plus, I love that gorgeous pink color. If you’ve never tried this recipe, it’s kind of like my simple strawberry smoothie, but seriously elevated thanks to the addition of papaya nectar and turbinado sugar. Although I wouldn’t say that this copycat drink is..ehem…healthy, it is certainly irresistible.

Sommer’s Recipe Highlights
Better than the Original – Some people snub copycat recipes, but let me tell you, this take on the classic Smoothie King version is so much better, and it uses fresh ingredients that are just better for you.
Quick and Easy – You can make this thick and fruit-packed smoothie in under 5 minutes, making it the perfect treat for when you want to cool down…or sweeten up!
Flavor Explosion – Every sip is loaded with a tropical flavor explosion from those creamy bananas, strawberries and a bold papaya nectar.
Refreshingly Sweet – There is nothing more refreshing than an ice-cold fruit smoothie that doesn’t require any yogurt, milk, or dairy alternatives! While I do love many cold and creamy dairy drinks, they don’t truly quench your thirst in the heat quite like a juice-based smoothie.
Key Ingredients and Tips
- Banana – I love to use bananas because they add a natural sweetness and they create that creamy texture that this smoothie is known for.
- Strawberries – Not only are these sweet, but they’re also perfectly tangy and they add a gorgeous pop of color to this recipe!
- Papaya nectar – If you cannot find papaya nectar, you can substitute with pineapple or mango juice. The flavor of the smoothie will be quite different, but still perfectly tropical and utterly delicious!
- Turbinado sugar – Even a pinch of this stuff adds just the right amount of sweetness without any of that “artificial” taste.
How to Make

Blend the fruit – I grab a blender and toss in the peeled banana chunks, hulled strawberries, papaya nectar and sugar. Then, I puree that all up until it’s smooth.

Add ice – Finally, I add in a cup and half of ice and blend again. I always serve this cold!

Recipe Variations
- Extra creamy – If you want this smoothie a bit creamier, add in a dollop of yogurt or a splash of coconut milk!
- Tropical boost – Mix in some mango or pineapple for added tropical flavors.
- Protein – For a post-workout smoothie, stir in some vanilla-flavored protein powder.
- Ice cream – Turn this into a dessert by adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Serving Suggestions
I love this smoothie on warm days, or after work when I need a boost of energy to continue along. My favorite way to drink this is in a chilled tall glass with a big straw. Here are some of my other preferred ways to serve this smoothie:
- As a smoothie bowl topped with some crunchy granola and coconut flakes.
- As a dessert topped with some whipped cream.
- As a quick breakfast paired with some simple over easy eggs.
Storing
I generally recommend serving this smoothie as soon as it’s ready, otherwise it gets watery if it sits out. You can also freeze this smoothie in an ice cube tray and then blend them up with some milk.
Frequently Asked Questions
For a thicker Caribbean Way smoothie, you can use frozen fruit in this recipe. Slice and freeze the banana and strawberries an hour before preparing the smoothies, or you can use store bought frozen fruit.
If the smoothie consistency seems slightly too thick and isn’t blending properly, try adding a splash or two of water at a time and blend again.

I used 3 cups of ice to make it a little thicker. Spot on with Smoothie King. Delish!
Just made this on Father’s Day. Tastes almost exactly like the Carribbean Way from Smoothie King, even if I used the mango nectar instead.
