Similar to our air fryer hot dogs, this recipe offers an excellent new method for making one of your favorite classic American foods. It’s fast, efficient, and the hamburgers come out so tender and flavorful every time!
Why You’ll Love Air Fryer Burgers
- Fresh or frozen patties – This method of air frying works well for fresh homemade hamburgers, fresh store-bought patties, and even frozen burgers – no need to thaw!
- Quick and easy – The burgers are easy to prep in just 15 minutes, and cook for less than 10 minutes for the perfect medium doneness.
- Customizable – While the concept and recipe are simple, you can customize this hamburger recipe with your preferred type of meat, quantity, and, of course, whatever toppings you like.
Bonus: All the mess stays in the air fryer basket. Seriously, you have to give this a try!

Ingredients and Tips
- Ground beef – The best ground beef for making burgers is an 80/20 fat ratio. This makes burgers that are super juicy but not greasy.
- Hamburger seasoning – Use our fantastic and aptly named best burger seasoning recipe, or any store-bought variety you like.
- Buns – We love the flavor and fluffiness of brioche buns, but any type will do! And, of course, feel free to use your favorite gluten-free buns.
- Cheese slices – I’m a sucker for good ‘ol fashioned American cheese slices, but really any sliced cheese will do! Make your air fryer cheeseburgers with cheddar cheese, swiss, provolone, colby jack, or spicy pepper jack cheese.
Air Fryer Burgers – Variations
- Air fryer turkey burgers – Absolutely, you can swap out beef with ground turkey! They take about the same amount of time, but you’ll want to check that they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
- Veggie burgers – You can certainly give this air fryer recipe a go using your favorite frozen veggie burger patties. Let me know how it turns out in the comments!
- Low carb – Skip the buns and make yourself a low-carb burger meal with a lettuce wrap or Big Mac salad.

How to Make Hamburgers in the Air Fryer
Tip for Success – Use a square of parchment paper or a liner specifically designed for the air fryer to help minimize mess.
Just be sure to add any paper or liners after the device has preheated and you’re ready to add the patties on top… You don’t want paper flying around and touching the heating element!

Storage Notes
- Storing Leftovers – Air-fried hamburgers make great leftovers! Once cool, transfer them to an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
- Freezing – They also freeze well! Wrap each cooled patty in a layer of plastic wrap before placing them all together in a plastic ziploc bag with all of the air sealed out. Keep in the freezer for up to 3 months, and thaw overnight in the fridge.
- Reheating – The best way to reheat burger patties is, you guessed it, in the air fryer! Heat them for about 5 minutes in a preheated 350-degree fryer, flipping at the halfway mark.

Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef 80/20
- 4 teaspoons Homemade Hamburger Seasoning or store-bought burger seasoning
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 slices American cheese sub cheddar, pepper jack, or swiss cheese slices
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 390°F.
- Divide the ground beef into four equal portions. Press each portion into a hamburger patty at least 1-inch wider than the size of the hamburger buns. (They will shrink as they cook.)
- Sprinkle each patty liberally with burger seasoning, on both sides.
- Once the air fryer is hot, carefully move the hamburger patties to the air fryer basket. Air fry the patties for 5 minutes. Then carefully flip each patty over and continue to cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes. 3 minutes for a warm pink center.
- If adding cheese, place a slice of cheese over the top of each patty then close the air fryer basket. Do not turn the air fryer on, just allow the residual heat from the air fryer basket to warm and melt the cheese for 1-2 minutes.
- Meanwhile, place your favorite burger condiments and toppings on the hamburger buns. Once the cheese has melted, move a patty to each bun and serve warm.
