I don’t need to tell you that cold drinks are a must-have for getting through summer. My refreshing white wine sangria recipe makes the best fruity, boozy, and fun drink to beat the heat at home or bring to a party! It’s surprisingly easy to make ahead in a large batch with your favorite wine, peach schnapps, orange-pineapple juice, and plenty of fresh fruits for a refreshing tropical taste. I chill it in the fridge for an hour or so, then add a splash of club soda before serving, for a bubbly sangria with fantastic summertime vibes!

Humble brag… I’ve been told by many guests that I’m the “hostess with the mostest”. And hey, I’ll take it! My flair for entertaining is usually on point, but it’s during the summer months when my chillaxing hostess skills really shine. That’s when I bring out lighter snacks and plenty of ice-cold beverages, like our friends’ favorite margarita recipe and my fruity (and strong!) white wine sangria recipe. This chilled big-batch cocktail features wine and schnapps to put everyone in a party mood, while also keeping things classy with fresh fruits and sparkling club soda. I love how easy it is to make ahead and customize with whatever wine I want, and whichever fruits are in season!

Sommer’s Recipe Highlights

Sunshine in a Glass – And booze… Plenty of booze! The combination of orange pineapple juice and ripe summer fruits makes a unique cocktail that tastes delightfully sweet and bright. A perfect daytime drink!

Sippable – Almost too sippable. Like in my practically famous rum drinks, the summery flavors in the sangria help to mellow the punch of the crisp white wine and peach schnapps. Especially when you’re enjoying a refreshing glass (or two) on a hot summer day!

Big Batch or Not – I make this white sangria recipe in a pitcher large enough for roughly 10 servings. It’s fabulous for poolside parties and lazy afternoons with friends. However, if you’re hosting only a handful of guests or want to make a batch just for yourself, it’s easy to halve or reduce the ingredients to however much you need.

Key Ingredients and Tips

  • White wine – I find the best chilled white wine to make sangria is a sweet Riesling or Moscato wine. Either one is great for pairing with fruit!
  • Orange pineapple juice – This bright combination of citrus and tropical fruits makes the drink great for summer. You can practically taste the beach!
  • Peach schnapps – The sweetness from the schnapps tastes amazing with the punchy wine and fresh fruit.
  • Fruits – Cantaloupe, strawberries, mandarin oranges, and limes are best to complement the citrusy and sharper flavors of the orange pineapple juice and alcohol.
  • Club soda – I add fizzy soda on top of the sweet wine cocktail just before serving. This gives the sangria a ‘lil bubbly bounce, and balances the sweetness.

How to Make

Prep and Pour – I start by getting out my melon baller and scooping out 1 cup of cantaloupe balls. Then I cut off the green tops of the strawberries, and slice them in half or quarters if they’re very large. Lastly, I thinly slice the oranges and lime, removing as many seeds as I can, and then I put all of the fruit aside.

Next, I add the white wine, orange pineapple juice, and peach schnapps to a large pitcher.

Add Fruit – Then I stir in the melon balls, strawberries, and lemon and lime slices.

Chill – Now into the refrigerator the pitcher goes! I chill the sangria for at least an hour, or up to several hours. This gives the strawberries, melon balls, and citrus slices time to soak up the white wine and peach schnapps, and mellows the alcohol with lots of fresh and fruity flavor goodness.

Serve! – When it’s drinky time, I fill a few glasses about halfway with ice and use a ladle or large spoon to add some of the fruit from the pitcher into each glass. Then I pour in the sangria to fill the glass about 3/4 of the way full, and top the cocktail with a generous splash of fizzy club soda.

Recipe Variations

  • Wine – White Riesling and Moscato are popular, but definitely lean very sweet. If you prefer a crisper bite with less sugar, consider using a drier Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio white wine.
  • Schnapps – I love the rich, almost syrupy sweetness of peach schnapps. But other flavors will work just as well! Try green apple for a tarter flavor to cut the sweetness, or whatever variety you like best.
  • Fruits – Truly, this sangria recipe can be tweaked by using just about whatever ripe fruits you want. Remove or add more cantaloupe, strawberries, oranges, and lime. Swap cantaloupe with lighter honeydew or watermelon, include slices of nectarines, add berries like raspberries or blackberries, use other citrus fruits, or use pineapple rings for a tropical twist.
  • Club soda – I use plain ‘ol club soda to let the flavors of the fruits and booze shine. But you can boost the citrus flavors by using lemon or lime club soda, or any flavor bubbly water you want.
  • Alcohol – You can swap club soda for Champagne or other sparkling white wine like Prosecco to bump up the booziness.
  • Servings – As-is my white wine sangria recipe makes a large batch cocktail that has approximately 10-12 servings. Absolutely feel free to halve the ingredients if you are having a smaller gathering with only 4-6 guests!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make white sangria ahead of time?

If you love recipes for summer cocktails that are easy to make in advance, you’ve come to the right place! The fruit juice, alcohol, and fresh fruits should be combined and refrigerated for at least an hour before serving. But I wouldn’t let it chill for more than a day; any longer and the fruits will get overly soft.

How do I adjust the sweetness?

This beverage is already plenty sweet, in my opinion. If you want to turn it up a notch, consider stirring in a tablespoon or two of agave or simple syrup made with granulated sugar.

To sweet? If it’s a particularly sugary-tasting batch, I’ll serve glasses with more club soda on top. You can also splash in two or three ounces of vodka to the pitcher. The extra alcohol will give the sangria more kick and mellow out the sweetness.
