Double Chocolate Cookies with Ginger and Cherries
Heavenly Double Chocolate Cookies with Ginger and Cherries. A decadent treat for any occasion!Â
I have this bad habit of whipping up batches of cookies at say… 11:43 pm.
You know the story. Diligence and healthy choices from dawn until dusk, then in a moment of weary relaxation at the end of the day, I let down my guard and BAM, cookies.
A complete undoing in 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees.
I should be headed off to bed, but instead I’m a prisoner to a momentary whim, too weak to say no.
That’s the thing about life, you’ve got to live in a state of constant awareness or something will get the best of you. Like Double Chocolate Cookies with Ginger and Cherries.
I remember staring at my report card in seventh grade, trying to decipher what the teacher meant by “needs to be more assertive.”
Then I looked down at my feet and remembered I’d been wearing unmatched socks all day because my mother handed them to me that morning and I didn’t want to hurt her feelings.
Maybe “assertive” means speaking up for yourself in order to wear matching socks. Or putting your foot down when someone is trying to take advantage of you. Maybe it simply means “able to resist late night cookies.”
If the latter is true, I’m sad to tell you I am still not assertive. I’ve come a long way since seventh great, but Double Chocolate Cookies with Ginger and Cherries still get the upper-hand sometimes.
That’s ok, these cookies are worth it.
Double Chocolate Cookies with Ginger and Cherries, buttery chocolate dough speckled with dark chocolate chips, plump cherries, and crystallized ginger.
Did I mention the secret ingredient? These double chocolate cookies have a hefty dose of Kahlua liquor in them. The hint of coffee and boozy essence intensify the chocolate, and the tart cherries and heat from the ginger manage to balance these cookies to the point of irresistibly.

Amazing cookies, great combination of ingredients! Happy Baking!
Love these cookies!
Wow. Cookies and photos both. As always your post and recipe are wonderful.
The cookies look incredibly good.
For some reason, I had read the work “Kaluha” in between “double chocolate” and “cookies.” It’s been that type of day so far :-)
You and I are on the same page, my friend. I just published a chocolate cookie recipe too. I think I like yours better though – chocolate, cherries, and ginger? Yumm!!
Chocolate cookies make me think of brownies…The cherries in these make me think I’ll be making this very soon.
Oh Sommer, these are right up my alley. Cherries and ginger are such a fantastic combination. If I made these at 11:43pm, there wouldn’t be very many left!
I don’t know… there’s something that feels so good about giving in to chocolate and cookies now and then. Sometimes it’s fun not to be assertive. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted crystallized ginger and chocolate together, but I’m intrigued!
These are such pretty cookies and so indulgent!
I know what you mean about the late night cookie baking!!! I have done it TOO MANY times :(
But this one looks worth all the calories.. lol!! What a sinner recipe! YUM!
What a delightful combination…they look fantastic!
Can’t believe you were up till near midnight making these cookies…now that is dangerous! They look irresistible.
I wouldn’t be able to resist these either. I love the combination of ginger and chocolate and cherries and chocolate, so I figure all together must be even better.
Well at least you had milk too! These look wonderfully satisfying. Sometimes chocolate just answers the call when you gotta have ’em – you gotta have ’em. Late night eating after a day of pre-dawn power walking, vegetables, fruit and yogurt (or pie) … been there done that!
Good grief I could inhale like 17 of those, right now!
These look so good!!
I hear ya, I have yet to master that elusive quality called willpower!
Kahlua was absolutely the point at which I knew I couldn’t resist these :) If I tell myself there’s cherries in them, it makes it a wee bit better. Right? :)
