Every holiday season my family keeps bowls filled with clove-studded oranges all over the house. The smell is something I crave when it gets cold, and I tried to replicate that with this warm, rich orange clove hot toddy.

Bright and festive hot toddy recipe. The Orange Clove Hot Toddy is a great beverage to serve at holiday gatherings this year.


  • 2 ounces aged rum
  • 1 ounce fresh squeezed orange juice
  • ½ ounce clove syrup (see recipe below)


  1. For clove syrup: In a sauce pan combine ½ cup of sugar, ½ cup of water, and 8 whole cloves. Place pot over medium heat and cook until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool. Once the syrup has cooled completely, remove the cloves.
  2. Combine all ingredients in a heatproof mug. Add hot water to fill up the glass, and stir.

    We do the same thing with oranges and cloves…that scent is amazing!  This sounds like such a fun holiday drink!
