It's no wonder saltine cracker toffee with chocolate and chopped nuts is also fondly known as Christmas crack... This classic sweet and salty recipe is amazingly delicious and addictive! So while it makes a fabulous holiday gift, don't be surprised if you find yourself eating the entire pan!
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Set out a 10 x 15-inch rimmed "jelly roll" pan. Line the pan with foil, then spray the foil with nonstick cooking spray. Lay the saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet.
Place the butter and brown sugar in a saucepan. Set over medium heat. Allow the butter and sugar to melt and then bring to a boil. Boil the sugar mixture for 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat.
Carefully pour the liquid toffee mixture over the saltine crackers. Use a spatula to spread it over every inch of the crackers.
Place the toffee crackers in the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, until you see lots of bubbles and crackly sections around the edges.
Take the baking sheet out of the oven, and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top of the toffee. Allow the chocolate to sit on the hot crackers for 3-5 minutes to melt, then take a spatula and spread the chocolate into a thin even layer.
While the chocolate is still melty, sprinkle the top with chopped nuts. Then sprinkle the top with flake salt. Allow the candy to dry completely. If you're in a hurry, you can pop the pan in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to harden. Then break, or cut, the toffee into pieces.
