How are you holding up this holiday season? Are you keeping your stress levels in check?

We are planning a neighborhood Christmas party next week. Instead of making a lavish spread that will take me days to prepare, I’ve opted to cook several pots of our favorite soups that I can make ahead and reheat.

Then I’ll have bread, treats, crocks of apple cider wassail and hot chocolate for the kids, and simple large-batch Holiday Wine Punch Cocktails for the grown-ups.

I’ve learned over the years that it’s not worth the pressure we put on ourselves to make “showy” food, when our guests will be just as happy with well-made comfort food and good drinks, like this cranberry punch.

Especially when cooking for a large crowd.

Holiday Wine Punch Cocktails

Today’s recipe, Holiday Wine Punch Cocktails, is a simple 5-ingredient beverage made in less than 5 minutes.

It requires only:

  • Red wine
  • Cran-apple juice
  • Orange juice
  • Ginger beer (or strong ginger ale)
  • Vanilla extract

These Holiday Red Wine Punch Cocktails are perky, with deep holiday undertones from the wine, ginger and vanilla.

How To Make Red Wine Punch

The beauty of punch making, is its simplicity. Just dump and serve!

You can dump-and-serve this punch as-is, or dress up your punch bowl with orange slices, fresh cranberries, and cinnamon sticks!

Boxed red wine next to an empty punch bowl.

Notice I used a good boxed wine in this wine punch recipe.

Since it’s blended with other ingredients, there’s no need to buy expensive bottled wine, if you find a boxed brand you like!

Make Large Batch Holiday Punch – Save Money & Waste

With boxed wine, the packaging costs less so the wine usually costs less. Plus, you can recycle the cartons just like wine bottles.

I’ve noticed, people often remember to recycle their glass and plastic bottles, yet forget they can recycle cartons as well.

What’s The Best Sized Punch Bowl to Use?

When making a big batch of my Holiday Wine Punch Cocktail, I recommend opting for a large punch bowl. You can check out this list of the best punch bowls, but my favorite is this pretty crystal from Viski for less than $80 on Amazon, while this 12-quart bowl is another great option.

Juice being added to the wine in the punch bowl.

As we cook and create in our kitchens this season, we are also creating a lot of waste from food packaging.

There are all sorts of cartons we use daily… Broth, soups, dairy products, alternative milks, juice and boxed wine. These cartons can be recycled right along with our glass and plastic.

I encourage you to buy ingredients sold in cartons because they are made from renewable sources. Then make an effort to recycle your cartons. Recycled cartons are reborn into items we use daily, like paper towels and tissues.

You don’t even have to rinse out your cartons. Just toss them in the recycling bin with your glass and plastic!
