Shake it off!

Yes, I have found myself singing the new Taylor Swift song nonstop! Having 3 girls who love her, I am always at their mercy as they play it in the car, house, or wherever their iPods can play this new song Shake it Off!! It got me to think, how I need to Shake Off some old rules in the fashion world.

I am a twin, the second born out of the two of us. Although, I am technically the second child in a family of 4 siblings, I was like a first child. I followed rules. Rules are meant to be followed, right? Helps our world go around? Well, I have decided in the fashion world I am going to Shake It Off!  Forget the rules!!

Forget what I heard growing up, because after Labor Day, many rules seem to be in place… but I say BREAK THE RULES.

Here are some to consider….

1) You Can’t Wear White After Labor Day.

Yes you can! This rule is one that has been around as long as I can remember. I am not even quite sure how this rule came about. Maybe it’s because it marks the end of summer? But I say the rule makers have not heard of winter white, nor have they lived in the south in late summer.

Wear a knit white sweater and pair it with shorts and wedges. Or wear some winter white capri’s and pair them with cute ankle boots!

2) Your Shoes and Handbag Must Match.

If this were the case I would have to buy multiple handbags with my different colored shoes. This would be a terrible bust on the wallet. I don’t need that many handbags with having four kids. So go ahead mix it up! Why not? It adds a pop of color in the simplest way.

Orange is great for Fall, matched with a colorful handbag and patterned shoes.

3) Black & Brown Cannot Be Worn Together.

Umm… black and brown are my closet basics, along with grey. It’s almost like they are two colors that people have tried to keep separate, but let’s face it, it was only a matter of time before we realized they look quite fabulous together. Break The Rule!

Wear a cute summer black dress and pair it with some classic brown high boots. Adding the high boots to this look, makes it an instant Fall outfit!

4) Blue and Black Can’t Be Worn Together Either.

I am not quite sure if I know any color that does not go with black. I see these two colors together and it has quite a classic look. A pair of summer black sandals can be worn with a navy blousy dress. Or match it with black ankle boots. Either way it is a classic look and I see it everywhere these days!

5) Shorts are meant for only Summer…..NO.

I say shorts are meant for late Fall! I mean I want to take my wardrobe and extend it as far as I possibly can! Wear your shorts from the summer or find some fall tone colors to pair with your favorite shirt.

You can pair shorts with a cute long sleeve maroon color blouse, or with a sweater or sweat shirt. From the Shake It Off girl herself, add some sheer nude or colored tights under your shorts. Yes, sounds odd I know, but we are Breaking the Rules and this look can be fabulous!

Thank goodness some rules were meant to be broken! I love my white pants and love even more that I don’t need to pack them away until next spring. Not matching the shoes and purse is a stretch for me but I think I’ll give it a try! Love your posts and fun, fresh ideas. Thanks for sharing Cara!
