Strawberry Pancakes (Pancake Art)
Make a marvelous Valentine’s Day Breakfast this year with heart-shaped bacon and eggs, and these tender Strawberry Pancakes! Pour them like classic pancakes or turn them into pancake art!
Who doesn’t love a good ol’ American breakfast of eggs, bacon, and pancakes?
Simple, yet satisfying.
This year for Valentine’s Day I thought, instead of trying to come up with something outlandish to serve for breakfast, I would offer an easy spin on this beloved classic.
Strawberry Pancakes are a pancake variety my kids love. Usually we make them with a little strawberry jam and a sprinkling of fresh diced strawberries mixed into the batter.
Our Strawberry Pancakes are light and airy with a note of fresh strawberry in each bite.
However, if you leave the diced strawberries out, so the batter is smooth and thin, you can use this recipe for Pancake Art!
Particularly, heart pancake art for Valentines Day!
Using plastic kitchen squeeze bottles, you simply draw your heart design in a nonstick skillet. Start with the outline of the heart first, then draw a pattern inside. A minute later fill in the open areas to create color variation.
Flip to cook through, and serve!
To round out your plate, you can cook bacon in the oven, folding it into the shape of heart while it’s uncooked, so it turns into crispy bacon hearts. Then use metal or silicone molds to fry eggs into the shape of hearts.
You could also leave the fresh diced strawberries in the batter and use heart molds to shape your pancakes.
…But squirt bottle pancake art is much more fun!
This is a Valentine Breakfast the whole family will enjoy making together.
Heat several nonstick skillets if you have them, and let everyone make their own Stawberry Pancakes – Pancake Art!
Cook’s Notes: When you encorporate jam (sugar) into the pancake batter, the pancakes are much more likely to stick to the cooking surface. Even if you have a steel griddle, use nonstick pans.

Strawberry Pancakes (Pancake Art)
Ingredients
- 1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 cup whole milk more as needed
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup melted butter plus extra for pan
- 1/4 cup strawberry jam
- 1/3 cup diced fresh strawberries* if not using squirt bottles
Instructions
- Preheat one or two nonstick skillets over medium heat. Pour all the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl and whisk. Then add the milk, egg, vanilla, melted butter, and strawberry jam. Whisk until smooth. If using squirt bottles for pancake art, stir in another 1/4 cup of milk and do not add the fresh strawberries into the batter. If making normal pancakes, fold in the fresh strawberries.
- For Pancake Art: Pour the thin batter into plastic squirt bottles. Make sure the hole in the lid is the size of a bb. If not, trim the end with scissors. Butter the skillet, then slowly squirt the batter into the shape of a heart. Use the batter to make a pattern inside the heart: dots, stripes, zigzags. Then wait an minute and fill in the open areas inside the heart. Wait another minute, then flip the pancake(s) and cook another 1-2 minutes. Repeat and have fun making designs!
- If making classic pancakes, ladle 1/4 portions of the batter into the skillet(s). Cook for 2-3 minutes per side. Then butter the skillet and repeat. Serve with maple syrup or strawberry jam, and a side of heart shaped bacon and eggs.
Loved this breakfast, made it this morning the pancakes, egg and bacon in a heart shape. Thanx for the recipe
