Mango Con Chile (Chile Lime Mango and Papaya)
SPICY Chile Lime Mango and Papaya. Fruit with attitude. Certain recipes are almost too easy to mention. Yet, it’s the simple ideas that we all long for in this crazy whirl-wind we call life.
Mango Con Chile
Some of these recipe concepts are so good, that they have no boundaries and are shared across cultures, borders, and even oceans.
This little snack is something I’ve eaten on the streets of many countries with tropical climates. Whether in Central America or Southeast Asia, spicy fruit is a beloved treat.
In Mexico, whole mangoes are commonly served on a stick with lime juice and chile powder. In several South American and Asian countries, mangoes, ripe papayas, and even unripe green papayas are served sliced with a spicy sprinkle over the top.
Here I’ve combined the best of both continents for a snack that can satisfy any craving… sweet, salty, or spicy.
What Ingredients You Will Need
- Some Ripe Mangoes
- Some Small PapayasÂ
- Granulated Sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon Chile Powder – preferably ancho powder
- Pinch of Cayenne
- Zest of a Lime
What Equipment You Will Need
- Sharp Knife
- Spoon
- Small Bowl
How To Make This Real Fruit Flavor Experience
Even my little ones love the vibrant combination of the perky fruit and deep flavorful heat.
How to Prepare: Simply peel and slice the mangoes and papayas.
Cut the flesh of the mangoes off the pit. Run a small knife around the interior of the peel to remove it. Cut the papayas in half and scoop out the seeds. Then remove the peel in the same manner as the mangoes.
Slice the mangoes and papayas into thick strips.
Mix the sugar, salt, spices, and lime zest in a small bowl.
Sprinkle the seasoning for papaya and mango slices on top of the fruit. Serve immediately.
Enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Do Leftovers Last?
The fruit itself can last in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. I do not suggest storing the fruit with the seasoning on it. However, if you do, it can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.Â
What Other Fruit Can I Use This With?
In many other Spanish-speaking countries like Nicaragua and Costa Rica, they have a seasoning similar to this chile-lime salt and they use it on many fruits.Â
You can sprinkle this on pineapple, watermelon, popsicles (paletas), eggs, and even on the rim of your alcoholic beverages (like beer and margaritas).

Mango with chili and lemon is my favorite snack! I’ve never made the seasoning myself before, I buy Tajin which is basically chili with lemon and I guess other stuff that are not as healthy. I’m guessing you mix taste very similar so I’m going to start making it myself! Oh, and it also tastes AMAZING with popcorn.
