Ingredients You Need

This garlic cheese bread uses just a few simple ingredients that result in a super flavorful pull-apart bread! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Homemade Yeast Roll DoughOr raw frozen and thawed yeast dough balls – This is going to make the recipe just that much more delicious!
  • Land O Lakes® White Deli American – Cheese that binds the bread and creates amazing melted strings when pulling apart the bread. You can use any type of cheese that will melt nicely! Mozzarella cheese, cheddar, or monterey jack would all work well.
  • Land O Lakes® Salted ButterMake sure that it contains salt because we want that extra seasoning and that buttery goodness that you get on top of most steakhouse rolls. If you only have unsalted butter on hand, add a sprinkle of salt to the melted butter.
  • Grated Parmesan CheeseAdds a little extra cheese flavoring with a little bit of nuttiness in the taste.
  • Italian SeasoningAids in the garlic bread flavoring by adding rosemary, basil, thyme, oregano, and sage.
  • Garlic Powder – This really is the glue that ties all the ingredients together and makes the flavor profile jump to another level.

How to Make Cheesy Garlic Monkey Bread

Start with thawed or fresh-made yeast roll dough balls. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees F. Grease a large 14-15 inch cast iron skillet.

In a small bowl, melt the butter and stir in the garlic powder. Using kitchen shears, cut the dough balls into quarters and dunk the pieces into the melted butter. Then spread the pieces over the bottom of the skillet.

Place the skillet in the oven to quick-rise for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, cut each piece of white American cheese into 6 little rectangles.

Take the skillet out of the oven. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Insert a butter knife in between the risen dough sections and tuck little pieces of cheese inside the crevices in as many places as you can.

Drizzle any remaining garlic butter mixture over the top. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden. Serve as is or with a side of marinara sauce for dipping. For added flavor, garnish with fresh parsley, too! Enjoy!

Tips & Tricks

  • Serve with all the dips! Make some extra garlic butter for dipping, or serve with a side of marinara sauce, pesto or ranch! Or a little bit of each!
  • Make extra dough to freeze! If making your own yeast roll dough at home, make sure to make some extra and freeze some for later. That way, you always have some on hand to whip up this cheesy garlic pull-apart bread!
  • Bake until crisp! Make sure you bake this garlic bread until you see that there is a golden-brown crust that has developed on the top. This will ensure that it is fully done in the middle!
